Privacy by architecture
Your stroke data never leaves your phone. Not analytics, not telemetry, not improvement training — strokes are evaluated locally and discarded.
Why handwriting still matters
Most learners only plan to read kanji. They don't plan to write them. But writing strengthens recall in a way passive recognition doesn't — even if you never write a kanji again after practice, the act of writing each one once cements the shape in memory.
KanjiKanji Modern doesn't require you to write. It just makes writing easy enough that you might. And when you do, recognition is immediate — no waiting for a server.
Handwriting recognition runs on-device via PencilKit and Google ML Kit Digital Ink. Stroke data never leaves your phone.
Stroke order animations are powered by KanjiVG, the open-source kanji stroke-order vector graphics database.
